J.K. Simmons to co-star in Chilled in Miam

Saturday, December 15th, 2007

J.K. Simmons is one of the great contemporary American character actors, as you’ll know if you’ve seen him in TV shows such as Oz, Law & Order or The Closer, or movies such as The Ladykillers.

But Simmons is probably best known for his bombastic, crew-cutted J. Jonah Jameson in all three Spider-Man movies.

Bearing that in mind, try to resist the impulse to yell J. Jonah’s trademarked “Parker!” if you see him in town next month.

Simmons, 52, has been signed to co-star in the movie Chilled in Miami, starring Ren?e Zellweger and Harry Connick Jr., which is scheduled to begin shooting in Winnipeg on Jan. 7. (The cast is currently rehearsing in the comparatively balmy climes of New York City.)

Chilled will also feature Siobhan Fallon, a Saturday Night Live alum who may be best remembered as mom to Shia LaBeouf’s hero Stanley Yelnats in the movie Holes.

Chilled in Miami calls for Extras

Saturday, November 24th, 2007

YOUR presence may be required in the Renee Zellweger-Harry Connick movie Chilled in Miami, which will be shooting in Winnipeg in January. The local casting company Kari Casting will be recruiting some 1,500 extras ages six and up at a casting call on Sunday, Dec. 2 at the Winnipeg Convention Centre. They’ll be looking for background people to appear in settings that include a winter carnival, a mall, a factory plant and a Minnesota street.

The romantic comedy stars Zellweger as a powerful Miami businesswoman who finds herself transferred to a frozen hinterland in small-town Minnesota.

The casting session will take place from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the convention centre’s main-floor meeting rooms 5 and 6.

Renee Zellweger as a Miami businesswoman

Renee Zellweger is taking a break from tedious period dramas to hang out in rural Minnesota. Variety reports that Renee is currently in negotiations to star in the fish-out-of-water comedy Chilled in Miami alongside Harry Connick Jr.

The movie casts Zellweger as a Miami businesswoman transferred to the middle of nowhere. Since he’s basically typecast as a hick, I’d imagine that Harry Connick plays the incredibly sexy, downhome farmer who she at first clashes with and then falls head over heels in love with.
